The iX comes with DC fast charging capability as standard and can charge the battery with enough power to provide 75 miles of driving range in just about the same time it takes to microwave a large potato. The muscular yet streamlined exterior houses a tech-filled cabin that includes an attractive curved digital instrument panel screen. But the tech is not confined to the interior. The front kidney grille is actually an “intelligence surface” that houses radar, cameras and several other sensors and is able to take on digital functions. There’s even a “self-healing” effect thanks to a polyurethane coating that reduces the grille’s susceptibility to damage. The self-healing effect on its surface can repair minor scratches within one day at room temperature or in five minutes if exposed to warm air, according to BMW. It’s an example of many pieces of subtle “shy tech” incorporated inside and outside the iX that seem to disappear until you need them. Another example would be the flush door handles, distance sensors in the black edging of the body and a camera within the tailgate’s BMW logo. A panoramic sunroof with electrochromic shading is optional. Power front seats are heated with leather upholstery or textile seat fabric called “Loft” and feature integrated speakers for the stereo.
